Mary Lorca
Mary paints mostly ethnic peoples loving faces since childhood, she finds it enjoyable to study people and look for emotion, quietude and interest in them. Most of Mary’s work comes through her. She seldom uses any life model or photos. She just lets the painting happen, sometimes surprised by what comes forth.
She was raised in an artistic family. Starting at age 7 her dad recognized her interest and being a painter himself taught her the beginnings of painting. Making her a paint box and palette of her own she was on her way.
Always taking art classes in high school and college and later just teaching herself, she developed her own style. There was always this little area of determination in her to keep painting through the years of career and staying home as a young mother. Many years got away from her with little work being done but it kept surfacing and coming around again.
During the years as a young mother she started a home business of sewing childrens toys and clothing along with womens clothing and selling them in stores in her local area. Later she began a wholesale business involving the making of Indian dolls: calling the business Jennimarie’s after the combination of her daughter’s names. The dolls sold all over the US and into Europe through the use of sales reps and the merchandise marts in several US cities. A lot of these dolls are now collectable and there are fewer of them. Mary made thousands of them between the years of 1985 to 1995 with the help of piece workers and her former husband. Once in awhile she will make a few but they are now sold under her own name. She added other themes including Santas, animal headed ones, country women, folk art and a wider variety of Indian dolls.
In 2000 she started painting full time and Feminine Mystique Art Gallery began to sell the paintings. After developing further on her style she is once again back in the gallery and continues to express her many women with their beautiful faces. Also, interested in abstracts she sometimes combines figures with the abstract. Mary has been working full time as a business owner and artist since 1979. Her paintings are mostly acrylic and collage.
